Double podium for Carrie Schreiner in Dubai

With two clear third places the duo Carrie Schreiner and Spike Goddart presented a brilliant performance at the second event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East in Dubai.

Although the 18-year old girl from the Saarland/Germany had taken advantage of her teammate’s, the former Formula 1 test driver Richard "Spike" Goddard, strong performance in Abu Dhabi and a longer safty car phase with an early race end, in Dubai she was already a strong partner of the fast and experienced Australian.

Already at the free practices on Wednesday and Thursday Carrie was always listed in the upper half of the time lists. On Friday morning in qualifying 1 she reached P6, Goddard arrived on P3 in qualifying 2.

This meant the only female pilot in the field started from position 6 in the first race. After a good start, she overtook a competitor in the first round already and then was on P5. A few rounds later the safty car came on the track due to an accident in the rear of the field. Immediately after the restart one of the Lambos had a spinning directly in front of Carrie and she had to give way and thus lost 3 positions at once! However, 2 rounds later the fast race girl reached her former position due to courageous overtaking maneuvers and narrowly before half time she handed the cockpit over to Spike Goddard being on P5. He could win two more places until the end and thus the podium was perfect.

In race 2 on Saturday Spike Goddard did the starting turn from P3. In the middle of the race, being on place 2 at a light drizzle, he gave the 620 hp strong race car to Carrie Schreiner. The youngest female starter in the field came very narrowly before Andrew Harryanto out of the pit lane, who was second the day before. However, Harryanto obviously had rationed his tires best, nearly at the end of the race had the best lap times in the field and was able to overtake.

Nevertheless, Carrie was more than happy after the race: “At my debut in the GT sports cars I could reach the podium three times out of 4 races. I didn’t dare to dream of that! Thanks to my teammate and the FFF Lamborghini Squadra Corse Team. They all supported me very well! At my very first GT race in Abu Dhabi my performance was quite unbalanced due to my accident in the free practice. In Dubai, however, I was very satisfied with my speed. On average I was less than one second after Spike, that was a quantum leap ! Furthermore, we now are on rank 2 in the total championship with only one point behind the leading. Such a brilliant start of the season I haven’t experienced since my best year in karting in 2012.”

Thus also the owner of the team Sean Fu Songyang was impressed by his young female driver:” Both drivers put in flawless performances; especially Carrie who is really stepping up her game and is making outstanding progress.” The third and last event of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East will be hold from 2nd to 4th March, this time on the long Grand Prix circuit in Dubai again. In April, the young German GT race girl continues in Asia.
