First championship title for Carrie Schreiner in GT sports car

In the by far most competitive ProAM class, in a heartbeat’s final, the 19-year old girl from the Saarland/Germany won the title of the Lamborghini Middle East Championship together with her teammate Axcil Jefferies.

Although it didn’t look too good for the Crew of Konrad Motorsport before the last decisive race on the GP circuit in Dubai.

The strongest competitor, the Italian team Antonelli Motorsport, used a second car for the final in order to increase the chance to win the Championship. In accordance with the regulations they put the two title aspirants to different cars and engaged the former GP2 and Ferrari factory driver Daniel Zampieri as Pro and the team manager, who is the former Italian GT Champion, was behind the steering wheel as AM.

First it worked quite well for them. Zampieri got the additional points for the pole position and due to a long safety car phase in Axcill Jefferies’ stint the duo of the Antonelli team Zampieri/Soleri also won the first race and Schreiner/Jefferies had to accept P2. That didn’t only mean that the championship lead was gone, but for her main competitors even a third place in the second race would be enough. However, giving up was not an option for the two Lamborghini junior drivers of the team Franz Konrad.

In race two Carrie only had a moderate start, afterwards she passed two cars of the ProAM class during her stint and at the obligatory pit stop it was only the leader Daniel Zampieri who was in front of her.

After the obligatory driver change Jefferies was chasing Zampieri’s team mate Soleri and has caught him about 10 minutes before the end of the race.

After an accident in the field behind the safety car suddenly came into the race track for only one lap. The complete field was brought together and everything was open again.

After the re-start Jefferies took the lead und immediately was able to gain some distance to the remaining field. Soleri couldn’t stand the pressure of the chaser and even felt back to P5!

Victory for Schreiner/Jefferies in the Pro-AM class, again podium in the overall classification and above all the Championship was perfect.

So the whole Franz Konrad Motorsport team was celebrating: “After 40 years of motorsport I have experienced a lot. But winning a championship which we had already thought wouldn’t been able to be win, is something very special! Carrie and Axcil have done a great race and coldly took advantage of their minimum chances. Due to the safety car at the end, we finally had the luck on our side.”

Carrie was also full of joy: “It was incredible how we were able to do it after all these troubles we had in the recent days. Thanks to my fantastic teammate and Konrad Motorsport who were involved in making it possible for me to win my first title in GT sports cars. Now it’s time to enjoy the success a bit and at the end of March the first test drives start for the preparation of the European season.”

Carrie Schreiner is now the first female pilot in history who was able to win an overall championship in one of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series!
