NLS 12h race: TOP 10 for Carrie Schreiner

The second highlight of the year after the 24h race in May on the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a completely new format was a great challenge for drivers and teams: Worst weather conditions during the 6 hours on Saturday and sunshine during the second 6 hours on Sunday on the most difficult and longest racetrack worldwide provided a lot of action and excitement.

On board again were Carrie Schreiner, Peter Terting and this time as the third driver the fast young Swiss Micklas Born in the Mercedes AMG GT3 of the team "Schnitzelalm Racing".

Already the qualifying was roulette, with a slightly drying racetrack, they decided about the grid only at the last minute.

Ex-DTM factory driver Peter Terting started furiously in the race with cutted slicks and had already reached the fourth overall position after the first lap. But then the rain became heavier again and he had no chance against the cars "soled" with rain tyres. The weather changed back and forth almost every minute, so the tyre choice was like a lottery. Carrie did a double stint as the third driver, she had started with slicks, then changed back to rain tyres after only 2 laps. "I started on the completely dry Grand Prix track until suddenly a heavy shower came down in the middle of the Nordschleife. In between it got drier but after my second pit stop it got much wetter again. I always felt I had the wrong tyres on," said the 23-year-old from Saarland. At the end of the day, the team was only on 14th place overall, one lap behind, because they lost a lot of time due to the unscheduled pit stops.

The second six hours on Sunday went much better, all three drivers were consistently fast on a dry track. After about three hours, they were already on P10 and continued to catch up. However, the gap from the previous day was too big though, so that they remained on this position after a total of 12 hours.

So, summarised Carrie Schreiner after the exciting race: "Our goal was a TOP 10 position, and we have achieved that. Saturday was very unfortunate for us, otherwise we might have moved up a few positions. In addition, there was not a single breakdown in the TOP 15 on Sunday! It was my first time driving a GT3 in the rain on the Nordschleife. I had a lot of respect at the beginning, but then it got better and better. In dry conditions I did well and drove consistently, without Code 60 and a lot of traffic I was able to do lap times of under 8 minutes 10. I had a total of almost 5 hours driving time and was able to gain a lot of experience in all kinds of conditions. Many thanks to "Schnitzelalm Racing" for the perfectly prepared car and my teammates who did a super job."
