Carrie Schreiner on a strong sixth place at the season finale
On the beautiful Formula 1 circuit at the sea in Abu Dhabi, the last season races of the F1 Academy for women took place in the supporting programme of the Formula 1. In addition to the usual two races, there was an extra run in order to make up for the race that was cancelled in Qatar one week before.
In a super-tight qualifying session, the 26-year-old driver from the Saarland qualified for position 9 and 10. The first 11 were within only 7/10 seconds!
Race 1 was relatively unspectacular. Carrie held position 8 for quite a long time but had to give up one position in the second last lap. Then in run 2, the big setback: a driver from the back of the field completely misbraked and brutally knocked the F1 Sauber junior driver over. So, no points and so much damage to her race car that her Campos team was busy with the repairs all night. At about 6 o'clock in the morning it was done and the start for the 3rd race was guaranteed.
This was supposed to be the best and most spectacular race in the history of the series so far. All the drivers wanted to prove their skills one more time, and it was all haywire from start to finish. There was constant overtaking throughout the field, although in some cases it was not done according to the rules. For example, some drivers did not respect the track limits and overtook on the side of the track. So, Carrie was in P8 at about the halfway point of the race, but then lost three positions in one corner because her competitors behind her had taken a shortcut in the chicane! But the young German didn't give up and, with championship runner-up Dorianne Pin in tow, she regained the positions and continued to move forward. Arriving in P6 on the last lap, she then had to let the strong Frenchwoman pass. Due to a time penalty for the fifth-placed driver for unfair driving, she was able to finish in a strong sixth place in this turbulent race. Thanks to the points she scored, Carrie Schreiner moved up to position 9 in the overall classification.
The fast racing amazon was also very satisfied and relieved: ‘I was very keen on finishing among the top 10 of the annual ranking. After my crash the day before, which was not my fault, this result was very much in question. But I fought until the end and, unlike many of my competitors, I had a flawless and clean race, so I fully deserved this reward! It was a back-and-forth race, and it was certainly one of the most spectacular races in my motorsport career so far. But now it's time to say goodbye. Due to the regulations, nine drivers who have been with us for two years are now leaving. I enjoyed racing against the best women in the Formula 1 supporting programme. As the only newcomer from GT racing, I did well against the single-seater specialists. This year, I have left four drivers behind me who were still ahead of me in 2023! The series was even stronger in 2024, so let's see how it will look next year after so many drivers have left. I would like to thank my KICK Sauber F1 Team, Campos Racing and the F1 Academy for giving me this unique opportunity. Now I'm going to focus on GT racing again, which is what my heart beats for. I already have a clear plan for 2025, but more on that shortly."
