F1 Academy in Singapore: Top 10 twice for Carrie Schreiner

On the legendary street circuit in South East Asia, the fifth event of the F1 Academy for women took place, as part of the Formula 1 supporting programme as usual.

The only German in the starting field of 16 drivers and Sauber F1 Junior driver Carrie Schreiner took on the difficult challenge in almost 40-degree heat on a circuit that was completely new to her.

In the one free practice session, she impressed by finishing on P5. Although things didn't go quite as well in the two very close qualifying sessions, the driver from Saarland was quite satisfied with positions 10 and 7.

In race 1, she made up a position on the better inside line at the start and improved by another position in the course of the race, so that Carrie finished on P8.

In race 2, however, the Sauber F1 Junior driver lost one position on the worse outside track and then battled hard but fairly with her team-mate Cloe Chambers throughout the whole race. Unfortunately, she had a slight ‘drift’ on the second last lap and the American slipped past. In the end, position 9 was the final result.

So, Carrie Schreiner after the weekend:
‘My tyres got worn very quickly in the second race, so I couldn't hold on to P8 at the end. It's usually very difficult to overtake on street circuits, so qualifying and the start are essential. The unaccustomed humid heat was a big challenge, but I managed it well.

Overall, I'm quite happy with the result. I scored points in both races and moved up to P9 in the overall classification.

Once again you could see how much stronger the series has become. Three overall winners from the previous year didn't make it into the top 10 in Singapore. It's fun to race against many of the best women in the world!’
