GT Winterseries in Valencia: overall podium and two class wins for Carrie Schreiner
After two years competing in formula racing, Carrie Schreiner celebrated a successful comeback in a GT3 race car. With her teammate Danny Soufi in a Lamborghini Huracán EVO 1 from Konrad Motorsport, the 26-year-old from Saarland improved throughout the entire weekend. The test day on Friday was still very difficult, the Lambo was not perfectly balanced, and Carrie still had problems adjusting her driving style to the significantly heavier and more powerful racing car.
On Saturday, things went much better. She finished twice on P5 in the overall classification in both qualifying sessions, out of a total of 38 starters! In Q2 in particular, she was only about a second behind the pole setter, a Lamborghini factory driver who was already driving the new EVO 2 model.
With positions 5 and 4 overall and P2 and 1 in the class in the two sprint races, the young female pilot was consistently improving.
In the 60-minute main race, Carrie, together with the US American Danny Soufi, was pushed aside at the start and fell back to P8. With courageous overtaking manoeuvres, she fought her way back to position five before the obligatory driver change.
After that, her teammate also showed a very strong performance and made up two more positions, so that the two of them finally finished on the overall podium with another class victory.
Thus, Carrie Schreiner was very satisfied on Sunday evening: “On Friday, I was still very sceptical. But the team of Le Mans legend Franz Konrad then completely rebuilt our car that evening. From Saturday morning on, everything went well, the Lambo was much better and more harmonious to drive. There is still a lot of room for improvement for me, I still drive too fast into the corners like in a much lighter formula car. I need more driving time to completely readjust. It was also not easy to compete against the Ferraris from the Challenge class, which have over 150 hp more than the GT3s! Especially at the start, they drive straight past us and then can't be overtaken on the straights. You just have to be patient until a gap opens up in a corner. Overall, though, I'm very happy with the results. The GT Winter Series continues in Aragon in just less than two weeks. I'll be competing at a completely different level already on the test day there.”
