GT World Challenge Sprint Cup at Misano: a hot and tough weekend for Carrie Schreiner

83 men and one woman lined up for the GTWC Sprint Cup in the extreme heat at Misano on Italy’s Adriatic coast. The spotlight was, of course, on local hero Valentino Rossi, who was born very close by. The multiple world champion was hugely popular with the many thousands of spectators and fans who had travelled to the event.

 

Carrie Schreiner, the only female driver in the field, predictably found herself up against a tough challenge in the world’s most competitive GT series. The 27-year-old from the Saarland improved with every session and managed to ‘hold her own’ well in both races against a field of over 40 cars.

 

Alongside her new team-mate Sebastian Øgaard from Denmark, she finished 8th in her class on Saturday in the unfamiliar night race and 7th on Sunday.

 

After the event, Carrie said: “It was one of the toughest race weekends of my career so far! The unbearable heat and the incredibly strong competition really pushed me to my limits. In the second race, we had another minor issue during the pit stop; otherwise, we would have finished even higher up the order. But I’m constantly learning and rising to the challenge as the only woman in this ‘tough series’! My team, Tresor Attempto Racing, has prepared our Audi R8 LMS GT3 perfectly and is helping me to make further progress. What matters most to me is where I’ll be at the end of the season.”
