Strong performance by Carrie Schreiner in the second race

44 cars, 87 male drivers and Carrie Schreiner competed in the world’s most competitive GT series on the demanding circuit, once again under very hot temperatures.
 

For the 27-year-old from the Saarland, driving her Attempto Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3, Magny-Cours was new territory, and her priority in the two free practice sessions was simply to get to know the circuit. Unfortunately, both sessions were interrupted by heavy rain at various points, meaning they had to be paused and later even terminated. With very little track time, Carrie had to get right back into the car on Saturday evening for her second stint in the night race. As expected, she struggled at first but was then able to improve significantly as the race progressed. However, she could not manage better than position 10 in her class.
 

Already in qualifying on Sunday morning for the second race, the German driver was on a different level. Position five in her class on a track that was new to her was a strong performance! She picked up seamlessly from there in the race as well. After a good start, she battled for positions amongst many top drivers and, shortly before the driver change, was in position four in the class and already had her target set on the driver who was third. Shortly before the pit stop, she was overtaken illegally under yellow flags and consequently lost another position.

Unfortunately, the incident was not penalised by race control! Her team-mate, Sebastian Ogaard, took over, also put in a good performance and only lost one more position shortly before the end of the race. Position six in the class was therefore the final result. So, after the race, Carrie Schreiner was satisfied with her performance but not with the result. “An illegal overtaking manoeuvre under yellow flags and, once again, a pit stop that was a little too long cost us two positions unnecessarily; otherwise, we would have been ‘nipping at the heels’ of the class podium!
 

You also have to bear in mind that we’re one of the very few driver pairings in the Bronze class competing without any Platinum or Gold drivers. Considering that, we did really well! If we can ever manage a perfect race without any incidents or mistakes, a class podium is definitely a realistic prospect! In my first year in the world’s top GT series, I’m slowly getting used to the tough ‘climate’ of the series and making steady progress.”
 

The Endurance Cup continues at the Nürburgring on the last weekend in August. Carrie is determined to deliver her best performance on her home circuit.
